We compare the full-size Nissan Titan truck to the heavy-duty Nissan Titan XD

Truck shoppers have very specific needs, and if you want to tow and haul heavy things around Greeley then you'll want to stop into our Fort Collins dealership to check out our Nissan Titan family of pickups. The full-size option is the Nissan Titan, and we also carry the heavy-duty Nissan Titan XD. The two models have some similarities, but they also have their differences when it comes to performance and size. Let's see how the two shape up so that we can find you the perfect truck to handle all your tasks.

*Claim based on years/mileage (whichever occurs first) covered under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty basic coverage. Ward's in-market Large Pickup Segmentation and Small Pickup Segmentation v. 2017 TITAN and TITAN XD.  Nissan's New Vehicle Limited Warranty basic coverage excludes tires, corrosion coverage and federal and California emission performance and defect coverage. TESTED IN ARIZONA

Nissan Durability Engineers can put 15-20 years of wear and tear on a TITAN in just months. And they do it in one of the most un-truck-friendly places on earth - Nissan Technical Center North America Arizona Testing Center. We complement Arizona with cold-weather testing in frigid zones of Alaska, Colorado, and Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

DESIGNED IN CALIFORNIA

TITAN'S bold looks come courtesy of Nissan Design America (NDA) in La Jolla, California. Inspiration came from many places: Industrial equipment. Precision tools. The shield and helmet of a warrior. The result is technological, yet with a raw, animal element. A predator among full-size trucks.

ENGINEERED IN MICHIGAN

For over 25 years, Nissan Technical Center North America in Farmington Hills has been the main campus of Nissan's North America R&D. Awesome technical talent combined with brutal testing weather make it an ideal place to engineer the new TITAN.

ASSEMBLED IN MISSISSIPPI

At the Nissan Canton Vehicle Assembly plant, state-of the-art facilities roll out some of the best assembled vehicles you'll find anywhere. Since 2003, Canton has been the home of an all-star lineup of extremely tough and capable Nissans.

POWERED BY INDIANA AND TENNESSEE TITAN'S

Endurance® V8 gas engine is built at Nissan's world-class Powertrain Assembly Plant in Decherd, Tennessee. TITAN XD's Cummins® Turbo Diesel is built at the Columbus Engine Plant - the center of nearly everything at Cummins for almost 100 years. [*]

Nissan Titan and Nissan Titan XD Similarities:

Cabs

Whether you want a Titan or a Titan XD, both models come in the Crew Cab, King Cab®, and Single Cab configurations. The Crew Cab has front and rear doors of equal size, the King Cab® has slightly smaller back doors and the handle is on the inside, and the Single Cab is just one door.

Trim Selection

  • Crew Cab: choose this configuration and you'll get 7 trims on the Titan & Titan XD
  • King Cab®: both models have 3 trims when shopping for a King Cab®
  • Single: choose from two trims when you get the Single Cab

Amenities

Like most competitors, the full-size and heavy-duty versions have the same trim lineup, and that goes for the Titan and Titan XD. Even though the Titan XD is bigger, you'll still find the same great amenities on the "smaller" Titan.

Differences between the Nissan Titan and Titan XD:

Size

The Nissan Titan and Nissan Titan XD are essentially the same size if you get either the King Cab® or the Crew Cab. There are some subtle differences, but nothing you'll notice as you tow around Longmont. The Single Cab versions of the Nissan Titan and Titan XD have larger variations.

  • Single Cab Wheelbase Differences: the Titan's wheelbase is 139.8-inches and the Titan XD's is 151.6-inches
  • Single Cab Length Differences: the wheelbase plays into the length, and the Titan is 228.1-inches long, whereas the Titan XD is 243.6-iches long
  • Single Cab Bed Differences: the Titan's bed is 67-inches and the Titan XD's is 78.7-inches. That more than 10-inch difference could make or break your plans, so we'll help you choose wisely.

Engines for the Nissan Titan and Nissan Titan XD

The full-size Nissan Titan has one engine for the entire trim lineup. It's a 5.6L V8 with 390 horsepower and 394 lb-ft. Even though it's one engine, each of the cab styles has a different max towing rate.

  • Crew Cab: this can tow up to 9,380 pounds
  • King Cab®: tows up to 9,450 pounds
  • Single Cab: has top towing up to 9,660 pounds

These are solid tow ratings, but if you need more grunt for your jobs around Loveland CO, you'll want to go with the bigger Nissan Titan XD. The heavy-duty option has two engines. Along with the 5.6L V8 there's also a Cummins® turbo diesel with 310 horsepower and 555 lb-ft torque. Since most heavy-duty shoppers are looking at the turbo diesel, we'll review those numbers.

  • Crew Cab: up to 11,960 pounds
  • King Cab®: up to 12,480 pounds
  • Single Cab: up to 12,710 pounds
